Heya,
Recently, I had the privilege of contributing to the second season of "Silo" through Outpost VFX, where I spent 7 months. My work encompassed layout, sculpting, modeling, texturing, lookdev, early lighting, and early scattering for underwater vegetation.
This experience also highlighted a concerning trend in our industry. Despite dedicating 8 months to this project and contributing significantly to its visual landscape, I found myself uncredited for my work. This situation reflects a broader issue in post-production: the increasing tendency to minimize or obscure the contributions of individual artists.
As our industry evolves, it seems to be moving away from recognizing the human element behind the visual effects. The artistry, dedication, and countless hours poured into creating these worlds are often hidden behind studio names and generic credits. This shift not only affects individual artists but also impacts the broader understanding of what goes into creating the visual magic that audiences enjoy.
The visual effects industry thrives on collaboration, creativity, and the unique perspectives that each artist brings to the table. When we diminish the visibility of individual contributions, we risk losing sight of what makes our work special - the human touch, the artistic decisions, and the personal investment that transforms technical skills into compelling visual storytelling.
Despite these challenges, I remain proud of my work on "Silo" Season 2. Each frame represents not just technical execution, but artistic vision and dedication. As we move forward, I hope our industry can find a better balance between studio recognition and acknowledging the individual artists who pour their hearts into bringing these stories to life.
To all my fellow artists in post-production: your work matters, your creativity matters, and your contributions deserve recognition. Let's continue pushing for transparency and appreciation of the artistry behind visual effects.
